Welcome! My name is Dana Heer, and I am so glad that you are interested in taking my MUS 110 class!

MUS 110 is a wonderful way to gain a solid foundation in music theory, whether you are thinking about earning a music degree, or whether you are simply taking it for fun and enjoyment! This class is open to all levels of skill and experience, from those who have a diverse musical background, or want to refresh their memory from previous learning, to those who have always loved music but never played or studied it. In just one term, you will learn about notes on the piano and staff, rhythm and meter, scales, intervals, and chords, and will also have the chance to play piano and recorder and to compose your own short pieces!

There is no textbook needed for MUS 110, and the class can be taken fully online, without visiting any campuses or other locations. It is an asynchronous class, as there are no scheduled meetings. This means that you can work completely at your own pace within the scheduled assignment due dates. The only items that you will need are a soprano recorder in C, a keyboard (or keyboard app), and the ability to download/upload assignments and videos. As I mentioned in the technology requirements, please reach out to me if you have a disability or any concerns about how you will complete the requirements. We can make a plan together to help you be successful!

 In order to access the course and complete the assignments, you must have access to the following:

1. A piano keyboard, virtual piano, or piano app (for several assignments, and practice/application).
2. A soprano recorder (in C), which can be purchased from the ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù bookstore, online sites, or at most music stores.
3. Chrome, Firefox, or Safari browser (Chrome typically works best and is recommended).
4. Method of submitting video clips for assignments. These brief recordings can be submitted by recording within the assignment folder itself, or uploading a recording from a video camera, webcam, smartphone, etc.
5. You must be able to upload completed worksheets and compositions to Assignments in D2L Brightspace. Assignments can be submitted electronically either as a PDF, scanned image, or a photograph, as long as the image is clear and easily readable. Scanners and printers are available in any ²»Á¼Ñо¿Ëù campus library.
