Details about this class
I am Ceci de Valdenebro the instructor for this class. I am glad you are here!
ED 224 analyzes current and past issues in US education through historical, sociological, political, and philosophical lenses with a focus on systemic inequities. Explores equity-focused practices regarding curricular approaches, pedagogy and classroom community. Includes a framework for developing a personal philosophy of education based on research and critical self-reflection. Examines current needs of today's schools.
In this class, we will build a community of learners as we work independently through each module. Together, we will explore our values, backgrounds, experiences, and teaching philosophies.
Please keep in mind that this course is asynchronous, meaning you will need to manage your time effectively to stay on track. Falling behind is easy, and catching up can be difficult, so I strongly encourage you to set a schedule for yourself and stay engaged with the coursework each week.
This course brings together a diverse group of individuals, and I expect every member of our learning community to show respect in all interactions—whether in online discussions, written reflections, or emails. A simple rule to follow: treat others the way you want to be treated.
As your instructor, please know that my first priority is your well being so that you can be ready to learn. Therefore, if there is anything that is affecting your ability to participate in the class, please do not hesitate to reach out. I am here to support you and I will do my best to connect you to resources.
If you have any questions regarding this class, do not hesitate to contact me - ceci.devaldenebro@pcc.edu
Remember, even though this is an independent learning experience, you are not alone! Reach out if you have questions or need support, and be proactive in keeping up with assignments.
Looking forward to learning with you all!
