Details about this class
Covers preparation for an entry-level systems administrator position utilizing Microsoft server operating systems. Focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary to install, configure and manage an Active Directory domain consisting of Microsoft Windows servers and workstations. Prerequisites: CIS 140M or instructor permission. Audit available.
The student working at home will need the capability to setup a virtual environment running at least 3 virtual machines.
To be successful in this course you should have a working knowledge of the following skills and concepts:
- Ability to install and configure a stand-alone computer including disk partitioning and configuration, creating user accounts, using groups to establish file system security.
- Working knowledge of basic operating system functions.
- Knowledge of basic computer hardware components, including memory, hard disk, CPU, communication and printer ports, display adapters, and pointing devices.
- Some understanding of basic data communications concepts.
- Proficiency using Windows Graphical User Interface.
- The ability to use Windows Explorer to locate, create, copy, and move folders and files.
- Ability to decipher and use commands from the command prompt.
- You should have a Basic Understanding of the Windows Registry.
