Details about this class
Welcome to PS201! Please visit my to learn more about our class!
Some important items:
Please enter the course on the first day and complete the Introductory Quiz by Tuesday 11:59pm (the second day of class). Students who do not complete the Introductory Quiz by the Tuesday deadline may be removed from the course.
You should plan to log into our fully asynchronous (online) course at least 3 times per week. Consistent attendance is a great strategy for success!
Weekly activities include:
- Reading the textbook
- Watching brief lecture videos (generally two per week and I try to keep them around 15 minutes each)
- Completing a video exercise
- Annotating a current events article
- Completing a chapter review quiz
- Every week you will alternately work on a Letter to Your Representative project and complete an Exam (which covers two chapters). Because you will take four of these exams over the course of the term, you will not have a typical midterm or final exam. Instead of a final exam, our last assessment is a final project you will create in Google slides, showcasing concepts that impact your experience with government.
Our class is a place where every student belongs - whether you are only taking the course because it is a requirement, you don't like "politics," or you don't know anything about the US government. I look forward to meeting you!
Technology
In addition to using D2L Brightspace course tools, we will be using Google slides, Hypothes.is, and VoiceThread. All of the tools in our course are supported by 不良研究所 which means you can get assistance from the HelpDesk if you experience difficulty.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
Online technical requirements
Please be sure to read the quick guide to Online Learning technical requirements.
