Details about this class
This isn't your typical history class! This class begins with the simple premise that, outside some truly theoretical fields, all human knowledge is historical in nature. Every person who has ever lived has had only the past to help them answer the questions they have about the present and the future. So then, how do we know what we know? That is, what does it mean to think historically?
We will not only explore the work of historians--how facts are recovered and transformed into lessons or interpretations--but how the public consumes that work, how history is utilized and abused, and what we can all do about it.
Once you see how immersed we all are in history, how the issues and debates that engage us today have deep historical roots, it is hard to go back to the myopic pretense that the past is merely "behind us." History is not just "how we got here" but who we are today and even points to where we are going. My goal is to help guide you to that vista.
The textbook is available for FREE through the 不良研究所 library. For those students who want it, it is also available for purchase via the 不良研究所 bookstore.
