Details about this class

Greetings!

My name is Emily Gaige (she/they) and I will be your instructor for this course. I’ve been teaching at 不良研究所 for 11 years in the Health Studies department. I have a Master’s Degree in Public Health and 17 years of experience working in health care administration.

My Philosophy in Teaching

It is a priority for me to create a safe learning environment free from shame, judgment, and discrimination and my goal is to provide an inclusive space where we can share information, practice skills, and interact with tools that can empower us in our personal health and stress management. Additionally, we will delve into external factors (social, cultural, environmental, political, etc.) that shape our feelings, ideas, and relationship to stress.

Course Details

  • This is a fully online course.
  • There is no required textbook for this course. Each week students will read current and relevant articles and watch videos to learn about stress, its impact on human health, and various tools and strategies to cope with stress.
  • There will be weekly discussions, short weekly assignments, and short weekly quizzes that students will participate in.
  • I will have regular (optional) office hours each week over Zoom. I am also available to schedule in-person or Zoom meetings with you at other times if you would like to connect, have questions, or want to discuss any of the material or how I can best support your success!

I look forward to working with you!

Emily

Technology

  • There is no need to purchase books - all of the content you need for this course is embedded into D2L Brightspace.
  • There will be links to articles, interactive websites, videos, and blogs that require updated browsers (such as Chrome or Edge).
  • I encourage the use of Google Docs and Google Drive for submitting assignments, though Microsoft products like Word or PowerPoint also work well. If you do not have access to these please reach out, I can work with you if these are not available to you. iOs products are not compatible with D2L at this time.
  • Having a webcam or microphone is not required since the class is fully online, though they are helpful if you choose to come to my office hours via Zoom.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
