Details about this class
Greetings!
You will notice this description looks a lot like the description for ED 263. This is because ED 263 and ED 264 are cross-listed as they are the same class except ED 264 students need to complete an additional outcome ( for 1 credit). Students who complete the certificate (Paraprofessional Educator) should complete ED 263, while students completing the associates degree (AAS Educator) should complete BOTH ED 263 and ED 264. University transfer students are welcome to complete this course if they need the extra one credit which they can use towards elective credit.
In ED 263/264 you will learn to make a portfolio which demonstrates who you are- and what you bring to a job as an educator! While this is a program requirement for some of you, it simply helps all of you to reflect on what you have learned in our education classes and really consider how you will use it. Self-reflection is a powerful learning tool. Additionally, you may want to use this to market yourself to future employers! A digital portfolio is a wonderful way to showcase your skillset and experiences in a multidimensional way!
There is no textbook required for this class.
This is a remote and online class that meets on Thursdays from 5- 6:20 PM.
Putting together a portfolio involves the following steps:
1. Review the outcomes and consider possible evidence to show you have this relevant knowledge or experience ( we will start to do this during our first live zoom)
2. Begin to gather your artifacts/evidence from your ED classes, practicum, work and life experiences.
3. Begin to write reflections which accompany the evidence. The reflections tell the story of the artifact or evidence. An artifact means very little without the story!
4. Learn to use the free GOOGLE SITES to build an e-portfolio!
5. You will have an opportunity to look at exemplary prior education portfolios and learn from your classmates as well.
I am here to help you along the way and look forward to working with you!
