Details about this class

This fully online course requires participation in several written discussions with Wednesday (first post) and Saturday night (reply posts) deadlines. On weeks with no class discussions, your work will involve independent assignments (writing or short answer questions). There are weekly online open-book quizzes and one final test. I have recorded lectures discussing the material, with slides to serve as "notes," an outline, or a study guide. Occasionally other videos are provided in lieu of (or in addition to) lectures.

You will need the assigned book for this course (Shielded, by Joanna Schwartz). Please get a copy prior to the start of the course. This is not a traditional textbook (so it is far less expensive!) but it does require some supplementation, so be ready to do some additional online reading, and watch/listen to my lectures.

Each week of my course opens at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday morning, and you will have until the following Saturday at 11:59 to complete the week, with deadlines as noted above. There are ten full weeks of work, with the eleventh week of the term to turn in your final test and await final grades.

I will send out an updated syllabus with details of my grading system, my late work policy, a calendar of work for the term, and lots of other important information prior to the start of our course. You will be able to access my course on the Sunday prior to the Monday start of the term, so feel free to jump in early.

I enjoy getting to know my online students via written class participation, as well as emails and calls or zoom meetings upon request. Please feel free to email me (anne.nichol@pcc.edu) with questions or for additional information. I look forward to having you in class and learning with you this term!
