Details about this class
Required Text(s) and Materials: Purple Moontower.(2024). TRUE+WAY ASL Student eWorkbook Units 13-15 (3rd ed.).
TWA stands for True-Way ASL. TWA is a virtual platform and curriculum used for ASL students for this course. All graded coursework is on this platform and is to be completed online. Students are given access to a unique "join" link on the syllabus so they can register for a student account. This is available to students on the first day of class on the second page of the syllabus. Students are to purchase their TWA code and TWA student account by the end of the first week of classes.
Students who delay purchasing the TWA eWorkbook have struggled with catching up and staying on track for this course. If you foresee difficulties in purchasing the TWA eWorkbook, please let me know as soon as possible.
Zoom class requirements: Students are required to have their cameras on throughout the Zoom sessions. American Sign Language is a visual language so students must show themselves on Zoom and be able to see everyone else to participate in dialogue and partner/group work. This will help students develop their expressive and receptive skills in ASL. Zoom chat usage will be determined by the instructor and everyone will be muted. Students need to be able to see everyone in Gallery view for every class.
Attendance requirements: Attendance is required because we will meet on Zoom live for all classes. Students are permitted two unexcused absences without penalty. After the third absence, a student’s final grade will be deducted one letter grade. Students whose webcams are turned off during class sessions will be marked as absent.
Technology
Technical requirements: Students need guaranteed and reliable access to high-speed Wi-Fi/Internet, a laptop/computer, and a webcam for Zoom classes to record/upload video assignments.
D2L Brightspace is an online course management system that is used for online classes. Students will access the syllabus, email, course announcements, course materials, and Zoom on D2L for this course.
Note: A phone or other personal electronic device that is not a laptop or computer is not recommended. Everyone needs to be able to see each other in Gallery view which works best on a laptop or a computer screen.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
