Details about this class
This class will be a mixture of Zoom meeting time and At-Home work. In a remote/hybrid course, you will get out of the course what you put into it.
How does this class differ from an In-person Drawing Class?:The Zoom class is three hours long 2x a week. In general, we will have 2 hours of guided exercises, discussions, and lectures and 1 hour of open studio work time each class period. The homework expectations are the same as an In-Person course.
Another big difference is that a lot of the ongoing feedback happens via the discussion boards while in an in-person class, it happens in class. It is important that you turn in the in-class exercises into discussion boards in this remote studio course. You will be receiving end of term points for this!
Course Overview:This class is a 4 credit-hour studio-based course. In this class, you will develop foundational drawing skills that are rooted in observation, process, and conceptual ideation. You can expect to explore various drawing techniques, strategies, and materials while strengthening the sight/sense connection. Through a combination of projects, drawing exercises, and lectures/discussions/videos you will develop a language to understand drawing as both a formal construction and a tool for expression. We may discuss a variety of historical and contemporary artists to place drawing into a wider conceptual and more equitable framework.
Time Commitment:
Creating a drawing is not a fast process. You should expect to spend prolonged periods of time on one exercise or drawing project. You will have around three to four hours of homework a week. Set aside a minimum of 6-8 hours a week to work on this class outside of zoom.(ballpark)
